PlanRutherford is a vision document that is intended to depict community preferences for future growth and a strategy for achieving those preferences.
The plan will provide a general policy framework that will be used to guide the county’s decisions related to the land development review process. The plan does not have the authority of regulation. The county’s zoning ordinance and subdivision regulations establish requirements and govern the development review process.
Rutherford County will begin the formal adoption process for PlanRutherford in January 2025. To be officially adopted, the Plan must be approved by the Rutherford County Regional Planning Commission and then by the Rutherford County Commission. During the process, public hearings must be advertised at least 30 days prior to each meeting where a public hearing will be held. Public comments are encouraged during this process and can be provided to the Rutherford County Planning and Engineering Department through multiple methods including, but not limited to, e-mails, phone calls, etc. Those comments will be reviewed and presented to both the Planning Commission and Board of Commissioners for their consideration.
